Starting on the west bank of the Lagoa Azul das Sete Cidades, this cross-country route aims to skirt the ridges of the Sete Cidades volcanic crater, formed by a series of collapses, and resulting in one of the largest collapse craters in the Azores. There are four lakes within it, resulting in one of the most iconic landscapes in the Archipelago and in it being elected one of the 7 natural wonders of Portugal in the category of non-marine aquatic areas.
