From Alte, continue in the direction of Sítio do Montinho, walk through the village and quickly enter the traditional rural landscape of the Algarve's Barrocal region. In Perna Seca, the route takes a narrow trail and offers close contact with nature, before turning towards Torre and continuing northwards, passing Fonte Santa and leaving Rocha de Messines mountain to the right hand side.

The route runs along the length of a ravine in the valley, before climbing up to Portela de Messines. One of the highest points of this sector is the part that passes alongside the Meirinho River, with typical riverbank vegetation - a pleasant surprise with plenty of shade and a landscape that is certainly interesting. São Bartolomeu de Messines is located practically in the centre of the Algarve.
