Start by crossing the Barão de São João National Forest, by the fountain, then continue northwards towards the Casa do Guarda and Parque de Merendas. Walk around the right hand side of Parque de Merendas and continue along the route. Further on, turn right onto an ascent that takes you past some wind turbines at a higher altitude, passing some temporary ponds. At the top, take the path to the right, which will join the Via Algarviana. Leave this GR route before reaching the trig point to visit the Pedra do Galo standing stone, to the left, before turning back to take the path leading straight on, which will take you back to the starting point.
