Leaving Monsanto along the Roman sidewalk, the route goes towards the village of João Pires, passing off Aldeia do Bispo and continues on a scenic trail to Penamacor. Cross the village of Penamacor in a northerly direction and climb up to the ridge until you start the descent to Meimoa. The route follows the Meimoa stream until it reaches the dam wall, crosses it through a dirt track and enters Serra da Malcata. Go around the dam's reservoir until you reach the town of Meimão, to reach Urgueira, the junction point of the GR22 in the sector that connects AH Sortelha to AH Castelo Mendo. In Urgueira turn left towards Ribeira da Nave, where after crossing the stream you start the climb to enter Sortelha.
