The route is often flanked by stone walls and passes through some hamlets and the Rocha da Pena Local Protected Landscape - a major feature in the landscape, before arriving at the Alte River at the Fontes Grande and Pequena.
In Alte, the route runs through a rural landscape typical of the Algarve's Barrocal region. The path runs along Barranco do Vale (the Vale Ravine) and one of the highest points of this route is the part that passes alongside the Meirinho River, with typical riverbank vegetation - a pleasant surprise with plenty of shade and a landscape that is certainly interesting.
Before reaching the mountains, you arrive in São Bartolomeu de Messines, practically in the centre of the Algarve. With the Arade River set firmly in your sights, follow an exceptionally beautiful road along this major water course. A steep climb begins after passing the dam. This is without doubt the hardest part of this route. The path continues along the banks of the Arade River, before turning further on towards the mountains, as far as the town of Silves.
