Parque da Saldida (Murtosa) » Fradelos (Albergaria-a-Velha)

Grande Rota da Ria de Aveiro - Percurso Dourado / Walking

Throughout this stage, the Great Route gradually moves away from the Ria de Aveiro, crossing, in its course, landscapes and habitats as distinct as the lifeforms and types of relationship with the natural world that are in them. But before leaving, be sure to visit the COMUR-Museu Municipal da Murtosa, dedicated to the history of this community and its relationship with the eel canning industry, unique in the whole Iberian Peninsula. By secondary roads we will stop at "Murtosa Velha", as it is affectionately called, allowing a detour to visit the Murtosa Main Church before starting the journey towards the east. In Veiros, besides the São Bartolomeu Parish Church, another small detour allows you to embrace the Ria again, in Esteiro de Veiros, near the Chapel of the Lord of the Ribeira. It crosses some eucalyptus producing forests before reaching the suburban area of the city of Estarreja, where you can visit the Marieta Solheiro Madureira Museum House, the São Tiago Main Church, the St. António Chapel and the Antuã Municipal Park, ideal place for a break. As you move away from Estarreja, the number of agricultural fields and small settlements grows, suddenly changing the landscape in the area between Albergaria-a-Nova and Fradelos, with the appearance of extensive eucalyptus production forests.
