Grande Rota das Aldeias Históricas / Walking
The village of Piódão was listed as a place of public interest in 1978, and today it is renowned nationwide. Clinging onto the sheer amphitheater-shaped escarpment, humbly carved into the surrounding landscape, the village of Piódão still retains the ancient and irregular layout so characteristic of medieval villages. There is therefore intense harmony and integration, which seems to have been conceived all at once in a brilliant urban composition. Narrow, winding streets open up into all sorts of different nooks and crannies. The houses descend from terrace to terrace and are arranged around the vast square in the centre of the village, where the main church stands.
