This trail covers a protected area of the Natural Park and provides spectacular views of two of the main volcanic massifs of the island: The Santa Bárbara volcano and the Pico Alto volcano. A special feature is that it includes a 1 km section around the caldera of the Pico Alto volcano, where the visible wall is known as Rocha do Chambre and at its highest point the altitude is 704 m. The interior of the crater is an important Natural Reserve, a sample of the immeasurable natural heritage of the island, which is regarded as the island with largest expanse of natural forests in the whole archipelago.
